My Dear Miss Dupre | Review

Interview With Jack Turner | Moments With Mercy

Many of you may remember that towards the beginning of this year, I had the honor of interviewing Jack Turner right after the premiere of One Winter Proposal.  I reached out to this immensely talented actor about an interview a week or so ago, and he graciously agreed to fit an interview into his schedule.  I know how much all of you Hallmarkies adore Jack and he really needs no introduction, so let's gets started, shall we?

Mercy: Can you share a little of what you've been up to since we last talked?
Jack: I’m on my last rewrite of a script that I’m pretty excited about. It’s kind of a biotech thriller. Also, I have a decent outline for another which is about a con man. It’s a lot of work to finish a script and more work to rewrite it, so I’m pleased a couple of them are moving forwards. Also a movie I did the soundtrack for, “Steam Room Stories - The Movie”, is releasing this week. It’s a great film, I was so happy to be a part of it!

Mercy: Who are some actors that have inspired your own acting?
Jack: I watch everybody, kind of taking notes in some respect, but while there are definitely many that amaze me, I rarely use them as inspiration. I think that’s a bit like copying someone’s homework. I’m more inspired by classes I take, the techniques taught within them, and the brilliant actors I get to see day to day, working and applying what they learn. I prefer doing my own work and seeing where the result falls - I think it’s more creative. I’m also constantly inspired by writers and directors, but mainly inspiration comes to me from real people in what seems a more and more surreal world.

Mercy: If you got the chance to choose, who would be your dream cast for a movie?
Jack: Me, Taylor Cole, Rukiya Bernard, Dewshane Williams, Cardi Wong, Merrit Patterson, Emmet Byrne, Róisín O’Donovan, Chris Newman. :)

Mercy: What can you share with us about your upcoming movie Forever In My Heart?
Jack: Merritt’s character, Jenna, is an American living in Ireland who’s in a sweet relationship with my character, a musician, Charlie. She has to leave to pursue a job opportunity back home, I have to leave to gig through Europe, and our lives move in different directions. Then, five years later, she returns to visit but she’s in a different relationship - one that’s not so good for her. So, there’s a chance to rekindle with Charlie. You’ll have to tune in to see what happens!

Mercy: What was your favorite part of filming Forever In My Heart?
Jack: Well, we shot the whole thing Ireland which was amazing. I’ve never spent much time there before, so being there for just over a month was such a treat. I loved the Irish people, their humour, their heart, and their beautiful country! We had a good craic - the crew and the actors were a riot. I also got to visit home (England) and see my family after shooting, so I just felt super lucky with the whole thing.

Mercy: What are three things you can't live without?
Jack: Making music. Love, friends and family (that’s one). Hallmark movies.

Mercy: What do you like to do in your free time?
Jack: Mainly write and battle with the frustrations of that! But I always make some time to play and continue learning guitar, and I always make time for exercise, for my mindset and headspace as much as anything else!

Mercy: Any other upcoming projects?
Jack: Hallmark announced “One Winter Wedding” but I don’t know the confirmed details of that. I’ll look forward to it as much as everyone else!  Also, a  movie I did in England last year will release in November. It’s called “Red Devil”. It should play in UK cinemas which is cool - I’ve never had a cinematic release before. It’ll be on streaming sites shortly after that, but I don’t know exactly when. It will be an interesting film - quite different than Hallmark, more like “Lock Stock and Two Smoking Tarantinos”!
