My Dear Miss Dupre | Review

Interview With Andrea Brooks

Good morning, everyone!

Only a week away from Christmas!  Can you believe that?  I'm sure you are super busy right now, so take a few minutes to relax and enjoy this interview.  I recently had the chance to catch up with the lovely Andrea Brooks who has been very busy this past year!

She'll be appearing in 3, (yes thats right 3)! Christmas movies this season- "Jingle Around The Clock", "Santa's Boots" and "When Calls The Heart- The Greatest Christmas Blessing".  We were able to discuss all those projects as well some of the other movies & tv shows she's been in.  Also, for the last few questions we decided to have some festive fun and ask some Christmas-related questions!

Mercy: Can you share a little bit about what you've been up to since we last chatted?
Andrea: Certainly! I’ve been bouncing around from project to project this year. It’s probably been my busiest year ever, and I’ve been doing this for almost fifteen years! We wrapped When Calls the Heart at the very end of October, and I shot all my Supergirl episodes in between that schedule. Some days required for me to shoot mornings on one show, and afternoons on the other.

Jingle Around The Clock
That was a whirlwind to say the least! Supergirl continues shooting until the end of April, so I’m still keeping busy with that. I also managed to pop off two other Christmas movies this year – Jingle Around the Clock and Santa’s Boots. When I reflect back on this year, I can’t help but think about how lucky I am to get to work on so many neat projects. There’s nothing I would rather be doing!

Mercy: I saw you're going to be in a movie called Project Blue Book, can you tell us a little about that?

Andrea: I shot a few small scenes for that series early in 2018. The show is set in the 1950s, and I got to play a graduate student opposite the brilliant Aidan Gillen from Game of Thrones.

Mercy: What is the most rewarding part of being an actress?
Andrea: Being able to tell stories for a living is a dream come true. I find it so rewarding when people come up to me and tell me they were inspired by one of the characters I’ve played, or that I helped bring joy or laughter to someone who might have needed it. For example, I’ve heard so many kind words from nurses and nursing students when it comes to my character Faith on When Calls the Heart. It’s extremely fulfilling to know that your job has the potential to bring happiness and joy to those who engage with your work. I’ve also received a few very touching letters from kids in recent months. One of them made me cry because it was so kind.

Mercy: Who are some of your role models?
Andrea: I’m inspired by anyone who aims to make the world a better / kinder / healthier / happier place. After following the devastating wildfires that have been happening in California, I was reminded of the importance of first responders in our society. I’m very thankful for those who put themselves in harms way for the sake of protecting the rest of us. Those people are role models. Those people inspire me.

Mercy: You've been appearing on Supergirl for the past few years.  What is your favorite part of being on that show?
Andrea: True. I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy this year by hopping between two shows, and taking on movies in my spare time. It’s certainly been busy, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Supergirl is an absolute blast to work on. It’s quite different from When Calls the Heart, but I love being able to play two very different characters. At the end of the third season Eve was poached from her assistant position at CatCo (the same position that Kara aka Supergirl held during season one). She’s now teamed up with Lena Luthor at LCorp, and we’re starting to see her make use of her Ivy League degree and background in nuclear physics. There will be more fun Eve adventures to come, so stay tuned!

Mercy: What was your favorite part of filming When Call The Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing?
Andrea: We shot the Christmas special at the very end of the season, and it was actually starting to get pretty cold out. So often we shoot Christmas movies in the summer, and wearing heavy winter coats and scarves can get a bit uncomfortable. I love being able to act like I’m cold when it’s actually cold out (acting is a funny job, isn’t it). Of course the Hope Valley Christmas tree is worthy of an honorable mention.

And now, for the Christmas fun-

Mercy: Favorite Christmas tradition?
Andrea: I love my mom’s cooking and baking. She’s become quite well known for her Jingle Bars. She even had the recipe published. They are triangular shortbread cookies with white chocolate and cranberries. I’ll try to get her to upload the recipe this year. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Jingle Bars (all of my friends and family members would agree)!

Mercy: Favorite Christmas song?
Andrea: Instinctively I wanted to say Jingle Bells… If you tune in to Hallmark’s Jingle Around the Clock this holiday season… Well, I’ll just leave it at that.

Mercy: Favorite Christmas food?
Andrea: Hmm. Apart from my mom’s Jingle Bars? I’d have to say cranberry sauce!

Mercy: Favorite Christmas movie?
Andrea: Home Alone! My brother and I would watch it every year when we were growing up!

Mercy: White or green Christmas?
Andrea: White!
