Interview With Tyler Hynes

I recently had the chance to chat with Tyler Hynes, one of the stars of the Hallmark film It's Christmas, Eve airing this Saturday on Hallmark Channel!

Tyler is rather new to to the Hallmark Channel, but he's quickly become a fan favorite.

Without further ado, since I know you're as excited about this as I am, my interview with Tyler.

Mercy: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Tyler: "I'm a 32 year old male, I was born in the month of May. I like long walks on the beach staring into the sunsets."

Mercy: What started your interest in acting?
Tyler: "Well, when I was 7 years old, my parents stuck me in a theater program because I was bored and being obnoxious and they wanted to get rid of me in the Summer. I did that for a couple weeks. That same theater company was holding auditions for a play called a Christmas Carol and I auditioned for it and got it, did it and liked it, and liked the fact that I was making people cry in the audience and getting paid while doing it. Kept doing it afterwards, and one day I woke up and I guess I was an actor!"

Mercy: If you weren't an actor, what would you be?
Tyler: "I'd be a bricklayer. I'd probably be laying brick :)"

Mercy: What is your favorite part of being in Hallmark movies?
Tyler: "I love how friendly and warm and fun the environment is on set.  I love all the cast and crew.  Everybody is very, very sweet!  Just a very sweet environment to be on. Exactly what you would picture it being, that's what it is."

Mercy: If someone was going to make your life into a movie, who would play you?
Tyler: "This is a tough one. . .  Jonah Hill! :) Because wouldn't that be an interesting performance?!"

Mercy: What is one thing most people don't know about you?
📷: Joshua Shultz
Tyler: "That if I watch a movie that's emotional, even slightly emotional on an airplane, I'll cry immediately.  Theres something about being on a plane, just emotions run hot up there."

Mercy: What is your dream role?
Tyler: "Starring in anything that's being directed by my good friend Anthony Scott Burns."

Mercy: Can you share one of your favorite Holiday movies or traditions?
Tyler: "It seems every Christmas they rerun Lord of the Rings or a hockey documentary series called 24/7, and for some reason I always end up watching those things at Christmas. I'm not even that big of a hockey fan, but that documentary series just cuts to the core of me."

Mercy: Can you tell us a little bit about It's Christmas, Eve?
Tyler: "It's Christmas, Eve is about a woman named Eve (surprise) who comes back to her hometown to do a job, which is to balance the budget of the school that she is handling because she is an interim school superintendent.  And in doing so, she cuts the arts program which I'm a part of because I'm a music teacher at that school. I'm also a single dad. In doing so, we come across each other and there's a little bit of friction, but that friction soon turns positive vibes and we decide we're going to raise money to save the school arts program. And maybe we fall deeply, deeply in love."

Mercy: "And lastly, do you have any upcoming projects you can tell us about?
Tyler: There's a film that I did called Peace which is a WWII movie that's a very contained, intimate story about a small group of soldiers who are faced with the realities of war and struggle with what they've had to be a part of and what they've seen.  It's a movie directed by a guy named Robert Port.  This is his first feature film. He's a very talented, good man.  I think it's going to be pretty good!"
