Interview With Mitchell Kummen

Hey, y'all!

It's the day after Thanksgiving, which means... it's time for ALL THINGS CHRISTMAS!  I'm so ready for the Christmas music, candles, festive decor, family/friend get-togethers, and.. Hallmark movies!  Who's excited for the special When Calls the Heart Christmas episode?  I definitely am, and I'm sure I'm not the only Hallmarkie/Heartie who remembers seeing the immensely talented Mitchell Kummen back when he was appearing on When Calls The Heart as Gabe.

Since then, Mitchell has been on shows & movies such as Ties That Bind, Motive, Aftermath, Summer of Dreams and Wedding Of Dreams; the last one also featuring his musical talent.  When I reached out to Mitchell last month regarding a feature on Moments with Mercy, he kindly agreed.

So, without further ado, my interview with Mitchell.

Mercy: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Mitchell: I recently took a job as a sensei teaching martial arts and I love it!!! Martial arts has always been a passion of mine! It's also that the kids I teach are so amazing! I also like to play guitar, as well as sing :) and write songs!

Mercy: What started your interest in acting?
Mitchell: That’s funny because it actually had a little bit to do with martial arts! I watched all the Jackie Chan movies growing up and I remember asking my mother while she was peeling potatoes how I could meet him. She said facetiously, “I don’t know, become an actor I guess” and that’s what I did! There was an open casting for a tv show and I booked the role on my first audition!  I fell in love with it! It’s pure magic!

Mercy: What is one thing most people don't know about you?
Mitchell: I like doing physics! I’m very into physics and quantum and would like to one day get a degree in physics!

Mercy: What do you like to do in your free time?
Mitchell: Where do I begin!? Write songs, go to Acting Class, sing, go to the gym, cook (I really like cooking) playing video games, and occasionally play sports.

Mercy: What is a place you haven't visited but would like to?
Mitchell: Spain! Or Hawaii... both are gorgeous, and I would love to visit!

Mercy:  What advice would you give an aspiring actor/singer?
Mitchell: Never give up. This business can eat you alive sometimes, but the only true failure is giving up. Sanford Meisner has an awesome quote. He says “Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” If you have that drive and you don’t give up you will never truly fail.

Mercy: What is one of your favorite memories of working on WCTH?
Mitchell: My co-star and friend Darius Zaviceanu and I would flip out hats backwards and cross our suspenders and freestyle rap and try to act really tough... it was hysterical. We even came up with a rap name, but I don’t recall what it was, unfortunately.

Mercy: Any projects you're currently working on that you can tell us about?
Mitchell: It’s a secret!  The biggest project I am working on that I can tell you about is myself! Everyday I’m working on myself to be the best version of me :)
